Essay // “What Can You Do for General Semantics? (J. Talbot Winchell Award Acceptance Speech) // ETC: A Review of General Semantics

My acceptance speech for the 2018 J. Talbot Winchell Award, given by the Institute of General Semantics, was recently published in the institute’s journal, ETC: A Review of General Semantics.

The speech is titled “What Can You Do for General Semantics?”  The issue in which the speech appears is ETC 75:3-4.

This evening at the Princeton Club in New York City, I accepted the 2018 J. Talbot Winchell Award, given by the Institute of General Semantics.

The award was given as part of the annual Alfred Korzybski Memorial Lecture event sponsored by IGS.

Upon receiving the award, I presented an acceptance speech titled “What Can You Do for General Semantics?”

Ben Hauck’s SlateShot Makes the ActorIntro SlateShot Hall of Fame

This morning I found out that one of my SlateShots — a very short introductory clip tailored to masthead an Actors Access profile — was chosen for the first ever ActorIntro SlateShot Hall of Fame.

My SlateShot — which mentions my being like the male version of Flo from Progressive — appears around 2:50 in the video.

Ben Hauck Awarded the Emerging Artist Award at the 2013 Unscripted New York Improvised Theatre & Film Festival

This evening at the 2013 Unscripted New York Improvised Theatre & Film Festival at Theatre 54 in Midtown Manhattan, I was awarded the Emerging Artist Award for my act as the Reverend Raymond Nader, as whose persona I perform completely improvised sermons off of audience suggestion.

“The Infinite Need” Grabs 17 iNeed Awards, with Ben Hauck Winning 10!

“Play Date” Wins at The Players Theatre Short Play & Musical Festival

From June 23rd, to Sunday, June 26th, I played the role of Robert in the new Brenda Bell short play titled Play Date. Performances were at The Players Theatre as part of their Short Play & Musical Festival. The theme was “New York.”

We learned today that the play I was in was the winner for the third week of the festival. It was exciting to learn the show was so well received!
