★ News from October 2000:
On September 16th and September 23rd, someone was resurrected from the dead.
Who might that have been? Well, it was "The World's La-Z-iest Shopper"!
I joined the illustrious social group known as "Jetsetters" when I flew one weekend from NYC to San Francisco for a one-day gig as Yahoo!'s The World's La-Z-iest Shopper, as Yahoo! was sponsoring Macy*s Passport, a fundraiser to benefit AIDS research. I returned to NYC afterwards, then the next weekend I flew to Los Angeles to do the same gig all over again!
This reprise stint as The World's La-Z-iest Shopper was quite lowkey. Instead of having my own playhouse to invite people into, I had two of the Yahoo!-branded purple-and-yellow LaZboy chairs, with their special internet connections and in-arm refrigerators, in hopes of tempting the overshopped into the comfy world of lazy shopping via the internet, known as Yahoo! Shopping.
At the playhouse, I usually got people in to hear the W.L.S. routine with simple cards that said "Hi." and "Smile."--flashing them at passers-by and surprising them into wanting to enter my crazy Yahoo! world. The playhouse looked like a small store with a gorgeous front window (to hit home a new kind of "window shopping," i.e., browser windows!), and I was behind that window silently flashing those signs. With the lowkey stint, I had no separation--I was in a Macy*s aisleway! In San Fran when I had the signs, being right there and flashing signs didn't have the right feel to it, because Why wasn't I just saying Hi! instead of flashing the signs??? There was nothing separating me!!!
But the fun-looking chairs and my W.L.S. hustle, along with the big help of some super-remarkable Yahoos, got people in them to relax and hear about the benefits of shopping online with Yahoo! Shopping.
"Did you know that Yahoo! Shopping is the World's Largest Mall? With over 10,000 stores? And you can comparison shop by just pointing and clicking, instead of walking door to door to door? And you can do it 24 hours a day?" That's the kind of stuff I never get tired of sharing. Needless to say, not too many people were unimpressed with the benefits of Yahoo! Shopping, and The World's La-Z-iest Shopper is hard to turn down.
While Yahoos took polaroids of people in the chairs, I told them about all the LaZboy chairs had and all that Yahoo! Shopping had ... they even went home with Yahoo! Shopping stickers, and some went home with T-shirts and gift certificates! Many a happy face . . .
There was one seemingly major problem that happened in San Fran. We were going to use a wireless modem to access Yahoo! Shopping, but the wireless connection was down! But because the W.L.S. breathes Yahoo! Shopping, it wasn't a hindrance, and people were well-educated and excited about a whole online shopping arena just a click away.
See what I'm talking about! Visit Yahoo! Shopping now!!!
