★ News from April 2000:
The Zoo Story with Jason Nettle was a complete success!!! We had four private workshop presentations of it at the beautiful MAP. Penthouse Theatre in the Financial District of Manhattan. The only somewhat regretful thing that happened was the late arrival of the postcard-invitations, that came from a great website called PrintingForLess.com. 500 color-on-front, black-and-white-on-back glossy postcards for a grand total of $167.50! (Very inexpensive.) Usually it's an 8-business-day turnaround, and while they shipped them on the 6th business day, it took the whole estimated shipping time via UPS to get from them-in-Montana to me-in-NYC (7 long days!). But we got them out in time for most people in the city to get them, plus we pre-supplemented them with email and calls to the invited friends, and we had great attendance!
I'm now doing a huge promotion in Rockefeller Center for Yahoo! Shopping. I play "The World's La-Z-iest Shopper," and you can check me out via webcam by visiting "The World's La-Z-iest Shopper" page on the Yahoo! Shopping site (shopping.yahoo.com). I work about every other day, and there are websites sponsoring each day, with GIVEAWAYS each day as well! Check out the Events link on the WLS site for more info.
I'm located across from Radio City Music Hall--50th Street between 5th & 6th Aves. The Yahoo! Shopping space is open from 8:30am to 5:30pm until Friday, May 12th. It's a Monday through Friday gig, with some Saturdays open 10am to 3pm.
I'm supposed to be on FOX's morning show as The World's La-Z-iest Shopper on Monday, April 17th, but I don't know if it's the national show or the NYC one. Whatever the case, it sounds very cool--except that I have a 5am call in NYC. How'm I gonna pull that off??? :-)
My Law & Order episode is due out Wednesday, April 19th, 2000, at 10pm EST on NBC. I now have four lines as opposed to two lines, a role expanded during looping work for the episode. "Looping" is a process they use to dub in sound--they play the scene over and over and you try to match your voice into the scene. In the case of the scene, the looping work was a bit easier, because when I'm talking, my lips are really on-camera. But it was tricky to do. What they do is outfit you with headphones, and you stand at a mic and watch the scene on a large television, and you hear the sound in the headphones, plus three consecutive beeps. Where the imaginary fourth beep falls is where you're supposed to speak your line. It's really a different kind of acting!!! I had trouble getting my exasperated exhalation right and on cue, as those who overanalyze the scene will notice. I'm really curious about what audio tracks they take, plus Cami, the girlfriend in the episode, wasn't there when I was dubbing, so I'll be acting with someone who's not responding to my being there! I hope it doesn't suck!!!
So, I'm officially Equity, by the way. The Yahoo! gig has gotten me my Equity card, and now I'm a professional actor in NYC. This gets me into the Equity building (which I still have no recollection about where it's located--Oops...), and gets me easily into certain Equity auditions. Now's that SAG card to get, but I can't get it until my parents sell my car, which will bring me the funds.
That's about it for me. Life is Dynamic . . .
